Unburying Hope review ¶ 103 Detroit for the meaning of love Their sweet and poignant relationship twists when Celeste falls in love with Eddie a battle scarred Ira War vet who is haunted by the horr This is truly an excellent story about two individuals who are learning to love themselves as much as they love the other Both main characters have some emotional issues he has PTSD and she finds that she has been living her life too tight in the years since her mother s death The story begins in Detroit where the residents find themselves in a dying city where hope has stagnated under the weight of economic collapse and under the threat of a drug war playing out in the streets Eddie and Celeste do make their escape to a place where growth of hope is a possibility but can that solve their internal difficultiesI really recommend this book but I hesitate to view it as a romance It has romance but it is also flush with heavier elements A wounded veteran of a war he no longer supports family tragedy drug abuse children from prior relationships and overcoming personal stagnation These elements make for a story with strong emotional overtones The writing too is far better than most romances the author uses language to strengthen the reader s understanding of not only the characters struggles but also the consciousness of how places can influence attitudesGreat writing great premise I will seek out by this author
